Impacts of Global Tipping Points on Health
Wednesday, 17 January, 2024, 10:00-11:30 CET
The connection between the impacts of climate change and Global Health Risks has never been more evident. Polar warming is accelerating at an alarming rate, creating increasingly extreme knock-on effects all over the world. These effects: drought, flooding, extreme temperature change, biodiversity loss, and much more – directly impact our health.
At the SDG Tent our Deputy Director and expert on climate and health, Dr. Sorbara, will lead a high-level panel discussion on the present and future climate impacts on health.
We will explore with our industry-leading panellists the multiple challenges and opportunities Global Health faces. Offering numerous perspectives from business and public standpoints, considering how leadership might be mobilised for a global response, but especially for Climate vulnerable regions.
Arctic Basecamp will also announce a new tool they will develop in 2024 looking at the effects of polar tipping points on health in association with the Wellcome Trust.
Moderated by Dr. Catherine Sorbara (Deputy Director of Arctic Basecamp) with Science Presenter Dr. Arthi Ramachandran (Polar Science Advisor at Arctic Basecamp) & Dr. Jemilah Mahmood (medical professional and the Executive Director of the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health at Subway University, Malaysia).
With:
Vanessa Grant, Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP and Board Member of Arctic Basecamp
Professor Alexandra Gerbasi, PVC and Executive Dean Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy, University of Exeter
